A Computational Model for the Effect of Dopamine on Action Selection During Stroop Test
نویسندگان
چکیده
Based on a connectionist model of cortex-basal ganglia-thalamus loop recently proposed by authors a simple connectionist model realizing the Stroop effect is established. The connectionist model of cortex-basal gangliathalamus loop is a nonlinear dynamical system and the model is not only capable of revealing the action selection property of basal ganglia but also is capable of modelling the effect of dopamine on action selection. While the interpretation of action selection function is based on solutions of nonlinear dynamical system, the effect of dopamine is modelled by a parameter. The effect of dopamine in inhibiting the habitual behaviour corresponding to word reading in Stroop test and letting the novel one occur corresponding to colour naming is investigated using the model established in this work.

A Computational Model Revealing the Effect of Dopamine on Action Selection
In order to reveal the effect of nigrostriatal dopamine system on action selection, first a computational model of the cortex-basal ganglia-thalamus loop is proposed and based on this model a simple compound model realizing the Stroop effect is established. Even though Stroop task is mostly used to examine selective attention, the main objective of this work is to investigate the effect of acti...
متن کاملThe effect of dextromethorphan on apomorphine-induced pecking behavior in chick
Dextromethorphan is an NMDA receptor antagonist in the glutamatergic system. Currently, there are some reports showing that the glutamatergic NMDA receptor mechanism stimulates dopamine release from several brain regions. This effect may in part modulate the stereotyped behaviors of dopaminergic system. The purpose of the present study was to determine the interaction between the blockade of NM...

Background and purpose : Dextromethorphan is a non-competitive NMDÂ receptor antagonist in the glutamatergic system with over 47 years of clinical usage experience as an over-the counter antitussive drug. We previously demonstrated that dextromethorphan modulates the pain threshold in the mouse acetic acid (0.6%,intraperitonealy)-induced writhing test (a tonic and chemical model for chronic p...
متن کاملImpaired Cognitive Flexibility and Intact Cognitive Control in Autism: A Computational Cognitive Neuroscience Approach
In people with autism, the ability to enact a behavior in the presence of competing responses appears intact, while the ability to fluently adapt cognitive control in the face of changing task contingencies is impaired. In this paper, the Cross-Task Generalization model (Rougier et al., 2005), which offers a formal account of the effect of dopamine on frontal cortex function, is used to capture...
متن کاملLearning How to Select an Action: A Computational Model
Neurophysiological experimental results suggest that basal ganglia plays crucial role in action selection while dopamine modifies this process. There are computational models based on these experimental results for action selection. This work focuses on modification of action selection by dopamine release. In the model, a dynamical system is considered for action selection and modification of a...
